Giffords Surgery - Services Outside Our Core NHS Contract

At Giffords Surgery, We offer a limited range of services outside our core NHS contract, we offer a limited range of services outside our core NHS contract. These services are provided to support patient care when appropriate. Please read the information below carefully to understand what we can and cannot provide.

Secondary Care Blood Tests

We are happy to carry out blood tests requested by secondary care providers (such as hospitals or consultants).

To ensure results are directed appropriately:

• The requesting hospital must add the blood test request to ICE, the electronic blood request platform,

or

• The patient must be given a completed blood test form by the hospital. Without one of the above, we are unable to process the test.

Pre-Operative Requests

We often receive requests related to pre-operative assessments such as:

• MRSA swabs

• Renal function blood tests before CT scans

Please note:

• We do not accept swab requests for pre-operative purposes. These will be rejected, and the patient must return to the relevant secondary care pre-operative department.

• If blood tests are required, these must be requested on ICE by the secondary care provider, so that the results go back to the requestor, not the GP surgery

Post-Operative Support for Bariatric Surgery

As per NICE guidelines, patients should be followed up by a specialist multi-disciplinary team (MDT) for two years following bariatric surgery.

If a vitamin B12 injection is needed during this time, it must be:

• Provided by the specialist service,

or

• Self-funded by the patient.

After the two-year period, we may provide this under primary care if clinically appropriate.

Private Testing and Dressings Following Private Procedures

If you have undergone private surgery and require wound dressing changes, these must be arranged with your private provider.

We are unable to provide dressing changes or aftercare for privately arranged procedures.

ADHD Assessments and Medication Prescribing

We may take over prescribing from NHS & Private Providers, but only if they are remain under the service and they have contacted the GP to create a shared care agreement. Please note:

• We reserve the right to refuse shared care if it is not clinically appropriate.

• We are currently considering new shared care requests on a case-by-case basis.

• Existing shared care arrangements remain unaffected.
